Common massager usage mistakes

I once saw a patient sitting in reception rubbing her leg with one of our massagers like she was doing a manual massage. I turned off the power and told her that if she massaged like that the machine might as well not have a motor (she’d been told before).

The mistake

Using a vibration massager it is very simple. It is the vibrations that have the therapeutic effects so you just sit the machine where you want massaged and let it do the work. There is no benefit using conventional massage techniques such as pressing in or rubbing. These are actually counter productive because they do not allow the therapeutic vibrations to soak in. We’ve built a machine capable of delivering highly effective therapy, but as I said to the patient if you don’t use them properly you might as well turn the motor off.

It is very common

People (including colleagues) are familiar with conventional massage techniques or think that they have to help the massager. We even have gurus on YouTube (examples in video below) showing people ineffective techniques. People seem to understand that you let the machine do the work when using things like chainsaws and other power tools,  but often don't when using a mechanical massager.  It is something that needs to be continually re-emphasised.
