The physiological effects of vibration massage

You need an appropriate massager

To get these effects you will need a genuine professional standard vibration massager. if you have not got one please check out our practitioner page , or you may be eligible for a complementary sample massager .

The physiogical effects

The physiological effects of your massager very much depends upon the frequency of the vibrations. Your best resource for this is our heavily researched article The scientifically proven effects of vibration massage- with clinical applications . It is very worthwhile checking out this article to understand:

  • the physiological effects when you use the massager, and
  • the best speeds to maximise these effects.

Our massagers are built to run at the most effective frequencies

With that in mind, most of the desirable effects such as relaxing muscles and increasing blood flow happen at around 50 Hz (cycles per second), which is about 85-90% of full speed on our General Purpose Massagers.

Massage guns cannot safely and comfortably be used at these frequencies

Massage guns come with hard plastic heads and professional versions drive their heads in up to 16mm.  Doing this 50 times per second would be extremely uncomfortable, if not dangerous, so massage guns cannot be safely and comfortably used in the therapeutic frequency ranges. Theraguns have a maximum of 40 Hz, but a survey of professionals found that most used their massage guns on “slow” or “medium”. The frequency massage guns run is so far outside the therapeutic range that there are practically no therapeutic vibration benefits.
